Day of the Dead Skulls, Crocheted-style

So I really really like Mexico. Everyone who knows me knows that. I could talk your ear off about that beautiful country. I also really love skulls, specifically more Day of the Dead-inspired ones. I collect them. In my office at the studio I have all of the cute little maquettes on display. I love them. My favourite place to buy them is in the market in the Coyoacán neighbourhood of Mexico City (they also have the best churros there). In my ever growing crocheting obsession (evidence here and here), I died a little when I came across this pattern to crochet skulls. Heart swoon. After crocheting the first three, I started to get the hang of them.

When you drive around Mexico, you often see neighbourhoods celebrating and the streets are decorated to the max. There are often garlands of colours flags strung across the streets and they look really lovely. When I started crocheting these skulls, I totally began thinking of these flags and wanted to make garlands of them in all of the colours that I remember seeing there. Below is the end result hung around one of my most favourite of my  Mexican Holga prints. :)
